How Long Does it Take Concrete Sealer to Dry?

The amount of time it takes for concrete sealers to dry will depend on the type of concrete sealer used.

  • Silicate Concrete Sealers: Silicate sealers are used to reduce dusting and increase the surface strength of the concrete. They won’t change the look or color of the concrete and work entirely below the surface. Silicate concrete sealers will appear to have dried in as little as 30 minutes, but they will continue to react below the surface for up to 90 days. Typically you can walk on concrete sealed with a silicate sealer in as little as a few hours.
  • Silane Siloxane Water Repellent Sealers: Silane-Siloxane sealers are used to reduce damage, deterioration, and staining caused by water absorption, freeze-thaw cycles, and de-icing salts. They are also used to reduce the formation of mold, mildew, and efflorescence. They won’t change the look or color of the concrete and work entirely below the surface. Silane-Siloxane concrete sealers will appear to have dried in as little as 30 minutes, but they will continue to react below the surface for up to 72 hours. While you can walk on the concrete sealed with a Silane-Siloxane sealer shortly after being sealed, the concrete should remain dry for at least 36 hours after being sealed to allow the sealer to fully react.
  • Siliconate Water Repellent Sealers: Siliconate sealers are used to reduce damage, deterioration, and staining caused by water absorption, freeze-thaw cycles, and de-icing salts. They are also used to reduce the formation of mold, mildew, and efflorescence. They won’t change the look or color of the concrete and work entirely below the surface. Siliconate concrete sealers will appear to have dried in as little as 30 minutes, but they will continue to react below the surface for up to 24 hours. While you can walk on the concrete sealed with a Siliconate sealer shortly after being sealed, the concrete should remain dry for at least 36 hours after being sealed to allow the sealer to fully react.
  • Acrylic Concrete Sealers: Acrylic sealers are used to enhance and protect interior and exterior concrete with a wet look, low gloss, or high gloss finish. Acrylic sealers can take anywhere from 4-12 hours to dry before being able to be walked on, but they will continue to harden for up to 48 hours after being applied. Concrete sealed with an acrylic sealer should not be walked on (with the exception of a recoat), driven on, or wet for at least 36-48 hours.
  • Epoxy Coatings: Epoxy coatings are designed to enhance and protect interior concrete floors. The dry time of an epoxy will depend on the type of epoxy used. It is best to speak with the manufacturer. Typically, it can take anywhere from 10-12 hours to dry before being able to be walked on, but they will continue to harden for up to 48 hours after being applied. Concrete sealed with an epoxy coating should not be walked on (with the exception of a recoat), driven on, or wet for at least 36-48 hours.
  • Urethane Coatings: Urethane coatings are designed to enhance and protect interior concrete floors from exposure to oil, gas, and chemicals. The dry time of a urethane will depend on the type of urethane used. It is best to speak with the manufacturer. Typically, it can take anywhere from 10-12 hours to dry before being able to be walked on, but they will continue to harden for up to 48 hours after being applied. Concrete sealed with a urethane coating should not be walked on (with the exception of a recoat), driven on, or wet for at least 36-48 hours.

It is always best to check with the concrete sealer manufacturer to verify their recommendations for dry time, and for specifics about technical information.
