Invisible, Penetrating Sealers
Penetrating sealers are designed to penetrate through the surface of the concrete and chemically react within the pores. They will not leave behind a visible surface film and they will not change the look or color of the concrete. They are easy to apply, long lasting, and offer a great alternative to surface coatings.
Under the category of penetrating concrete sealers there are concrete surface hardeners and densifiers, and water repellent sealers. Concrete surface hardeners and densifiers should be used if you are seeking an increase in strength and density. Surface hardeners and densifiers will not reduce water absorption on the surface, and won’t help against deterioration caused by water absorption. If the broom finished concrete requires a densifier, consider first applying a densifier followed by the application of a water repellent sealer 5-7 days later.
Water repellent sealers will repel up to 85-95% of surface water absorption, preventing a variety of issues. Some of the benefits include:
- Reduce the growth of mold, mildew, and algea on the surface
- Reduce deterioration such as cracking, spalling, and pitting
- Reduce staining caused from the absorption of surface spills
- Reduce dusting
- Reduce freeze-thaw damage
- Reduce salt damage
- Reduce the formation of efflorescence
