Effectively remove efflorescence from concrete and brick using the Armor Efflorescence Remover. The Armor Efflorescence Remover works to life efflorescence from deep within the pores and rid of it on the surface.

  1. Protect all areas not to be cleaned and prepared.
  2. Dilute Armor Efflorescence Remover with water to desired dilution rate (mix with cold water, d not mix with warm or hot water).
  3. Pre-wet the surface to be cleaned. Using a polyethylene pump sprayer, apply at a rate of up to 200-400 sq. ft. per gallon. 4. use an acid resistant plastic sprayer. Work in areas of approximately 200 square feet at one time, covering the entire working surface not leaving dry areas or spots. Overlap sections prior to moving on to remaining areas.
  4. Allow 5-10 minutes for proper reaction, then by use of an acid resistant brush, work cleaner into the surface.
  5. Rinse thoroughly with water. Repeat until floor is clean and free of all material. Note: high pressure 500-1000 psi rinsing is recommended for best results. Make sure the final rinse is done with a PH balancing solution (such as water and ammonia, or water and baking soda). Remove standing water with a wet vacuum.
  6. Clean all equipment and tools with a warm soap and water solution.
  7. Allow the area to dry 18-24 hours.


How To Stop Efflorescence

It is important to understand that while efflorescence can be significantly reduced, it isn't always possible to stop efflorescence. How well a sealer can reduce efflorescence will depend on the source of the efflorescece and where you are  trying to seal.

If you have efflorescnece on the interior, the only way to stop efflorescence is by sealing the exterior. Water and moisture carry efflorescence through the pores to the surface. While sealing the exterior is ideal, it isn't always possible. If you don't have access to the exterior, your only choice is to seal from the inside.

First, you want to apply a densifier. Sodium and lithium silicate densifiers will penetrate into the substrate and chemically react to form Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH) whithin the pores. The CSH formed will reduce the size of the pores which then reduces the movement of water, moisture, and efflorescence. The size of the CSH structure formed within the pores can't be controlled or predicted. The size of the CSH structure will depend on how much free lime and calcium was present during the time of application, the size of the pore, the type and amount of sealer applied, the applicator and how the sealer was applied. While two coats is typical, additional coats may be required. When applying a densifier, it is important to space out the coats and apply thin, even coats. If you over apply a sodium (Armor S2000) or lithium silicate densifier (Armor L3000) you will end up with reacted crystals on the surface that can only be removed through grinding.

5-7 days after applying a densifier you want to apply a high solids water repellent sealer.  Water repellent sealers (Armor SX5000) will help to reduce the movement of moisture by up to 1-7 LBS. Moisture brings efflorescence to the surface so naturally, when you reduce moisture you reduce efflorescence.

How much the efflorescence is reduced can't be predicted or controlled. How much the efflorescence will be reduced will depend on the source of the efflorescence, how much efflorescence is present, the type of sealer used, how much sealer was used, the cured sealer, the size of the pores, the substrate type, and other factors.


What about a coating? In some cases, a coating may be able to reduce efflorescnece but if the efflorescence is severe enough, it will cause any coating or paint applied to the surface to peel. Start with a sealer and if you need a coating, consider an industrial epoxy or urethane.
