How long does concrete take to cure? The short answer is 28 days. Actual concrete cure time will vary depending on the climate, the concrete mixture, the concrete additives that were used, and the type of concrete. All of those factors will contribute to a shorter, or longer cure time.

If you are looking to apply a concrete sealer before the concrete is fully cured, consider applying a Cure and Seal, or a sealer rated for new concrete. Cure and Sealers are often acrylic in base and will provide a visible wet look or high gloss finish to the surface. Popular cure and seals are the Armor WB25 (water based high gloss), Armor LV25 (solvent based high gloss), and Armor AX25 (solvent based high gloss infused with Siloxane). If you want to seal but don't want to change the look or color of the concrete then you want a water repellent sealer like the Armor SC25.

Why can't I seal before concrete is cured? During the concrete curing process the concrete is holding excess water and moisture. If you cure concrete too quickly, it will dry up and crack. If concrete isn't fully cured when you put a sealer on it (one that isn't rated for new concrete), the sealer will stain the concrete or the water prevent the sealer from being able to penetrating, react, or bond. Using the appropriate sealer is important.

Should I use a Cure N Seal? Cure N Seal products are not required, but they are helpful in the curing process. They ensure the concrete has enough moisture to cure properly. If the contractor used a curing compound in the concrete mixture, a Cure N Seal would be required but can be used if you were looking to enhance or protect the surface before the concrete water fully cured.
