A breathable sealer is a sealer that allows for moisture to pass through the concrete surface. Under the category of breathable sealers, there are three types of sealers that can be used:
1. Silicate Sealer:Silicate based sealers are typically sodium or lithium silicate in base. They penetrate into the concrete and chemically react with the free lime and calcium in the concrete to form Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH) within the pores. Silicate based sealers do not change the look or color of the concrete, and they do not leave behind a surface film. They are designed to simply form a crystallline barrier within the pores to increase the strength and density of the concrete. Through densification, the movement of water and moisture can be reduced. If you are trying to seal concrete to protect it from ice and salt damage, staining, or mold and mildew, a silicate sealer is NOT the sealer you want. Instead, you want a Silane-Siloxane sealer. If your concrete requires an increase in strength and protection, apply a silicate first followed by the application of a Silane-Siloxane sealer 5-7 days later.
2. Silane-Siloxane Sealer:Silane-Siloxane based sealers are water repellent sealers. They chemically react to form a hydrophobic barrier within the pores of the concrete. Silane-Siloxane sealers do not change the look or color of the concrete, and they do not leave behind a surface film. By reducing the absorption of surface water and other liquids, you reduce a variety of issues caused by liquid absorption including cracking, spalling, pitting, staining, ice and salt damage, and the growth of mold and mildew. Silane-Siloxane sealers are the most popular type of breathable concrete sealer available, and they are used to seal basements, driveways, walkways, warehouse floors, garage floors, and more.
3. Acrylic Sealer: Acrylic sealers are designed to leave behind a surface film, and enhance the appearance of the concrete with a color, wet look, satin sheen, or high gloss. Acrylic sealers protect concrete, but in a different way. Sealers protect concrete by prevent absorption through the pores and coatings protect the concrete by adding a surface film between the concrete and the environment. Acrylics are popular if you are also looking to chance or enhance the appearance of the concrete.

Armor AR500: High gloss pure acrylic sealer designed to enhance and protect interior and exterior concrete and paver surfaces.
Armor AX25: Siloxane infused high gloss acrylic sealer designed to enhance and protect interior and exterior concrete and paver surfaces.
Armor LV25 and WB25: High gloss acrylic cure and seals designed to cure and seal interior and exterior concrete surfaces.
