When applying concrete sealers and coatings to concrete and brick it is very important to take into consideration the time of the day before applying your product.   The time of the day may effect several variables including; air temperature, surface temperature, moisture and sub-surface moisture which will play a very important roles in how your sealer or coating is applied and how it will cure.  The follow recommendations are ideal to acheive an optimal finish and life expectancy of your concrete and brick sealers or coatings.

 

Morning

It is NOT recommended to apply concrete sealers or coatings in the morning. 

Sealing Concrete In Morning

Early Morning Moisture:  Usually in the morning there is a much higher chance that the concrete will contain moisture on the surface or subsurface from condensation caused by temperature changes at night.  This moisture can chemically disrupt a solvent-based sealer/coating causing white or blotchy spots.  Moisture on or in the concrete may also prevent penetrating sealers from properly absorbing into the concrete which may result in poor performance and potentially an inconsistent surface appearance.

Rising Temperature:  During the morning hours as the sun rises, so will the air and surface temperature.  Rapid increase in air and surface temperatures may cause blistering or bubbles to form as a result of expanding air/gas particles that get trapped beneath the sealer or coating.

 

 

Noon

It is NOT recommended to apply concrete sealer or coatings in the middle of the day or Noon time.

Sealing Concrete Noon TimeHigh Temperature:  Usually when the sun is directly above, this is the hottest part of the day. High air and surface temperatures may cause blistering or bubbles to form as a result of expanding air/gas particles that get trapped beneath the sealer or coating.

 

 

 

 

 

Afternoon

The Afternoon is generally the best time of the day to apply concrete sealers and coatings.

Sealing concrete in the afternoonReducing Temperature:  By the afternoon the air and surface temperatures are decreasing causing any trapped air/gas to compress which will result in the sealer/coating to penetrate and cure flat without any blistering.

Dry Surface: By the afternoon/late afternoon any surface or sub surface moisture will likely be evaporated providing a dry surface, best for applying concrete sealers and coatings.
