Polished concrete. Have you ever gone into a Home Depot or Lowe’s and like how the concrete looked like concrete – only fancier. That look is very easy to create, very easy to maintain, and very affordable.
We recently had a customer (contractor) that was assigned the task of making concrete floors at the Oakly Vault look like polished concrete – without the polished concrete cost and without any additional required maintenance. They also wanted to make sure their concrete floor was protected from efflorescence, water, moisture, and vapors. Two hours of total work time later, the Oakley Vault had 2,500 square feet of beautiful, polished concrete floors.
How To Get A Polished Concrete Look
There are two steps to get a polished concrete look:
- Seal the concrete floor with the Foundation Armor concrete sealer. The concrete sealer is a penetrant sealer that reacts with the free lime in the concrete. This reaction forms a crystalline structure within the pores of the concrete. Once dry, the concrete is strengthened by up to 45% and stops water, vapors, moisture, and radon. It also helps to prevent the concrete from cracking or spalling. Once dry, you can’t even tell the concrete has been sealed. You apply the sealer once in a lifetime.
- Once the sealer has had time to dry (5-7 days), simply polish the floors with a concrete wax. You can control the shine by the type and amount of concrete wax you use.
So there you have it, a simply, affordable, and great way to get polished concrete.
